| Return to Smith River National Recreation Area. | |
Stoney Creek TrailStoney Creek Trail is a short access route into the north fork of Smith River, a watershed almost entirely fed by tributaries of the largest serpentine outcrop in the nation. It is an interesting botanical and geologic destination. Total length of the trail is about one mile.
Directions From Crescent City: Drive north on Highway 101 and take the Highway 199 off ramp. Drive about 13 miles on Highway 199 and look for the Gasquet Market on the left (located just past the Gasquet airport). Turn left on the road next to the market (Middle Fork Road) and drive about 300 feet to the intersection with Gasquet Flat Road. Turn right, cross a bridge and stay to the left when you come to the fork. Stay to the left again at the next fork (if you go to the right you will be on the historic Gasquet Toll Road). Drive about a mile from this fork to the intersection with Stoney Creek Road. Turn right and drive about 300 feet to the trailhead on the right.
