Snailback Beach Trail is a short hike to a gravel beach next to the Illinois River.

 

Directions 

Follow Highway 199 to Selma and turn on the Illinois River Road into the Wild and Scenic River corridor. The turn is marked by a blinking yellow light with a post office on the corner. Turn and drive past the post office to get on Illinois River Road. If you turn the other way you will be on Deer Creek Road. Drive 5.3 miles to the trailhead. CAUTION: Parking for the trailhead is on the left at a sharp curve in the road that makes it difficult to see on-coming traffic. Use extra caution when turning to park.

 

 

Trail Description

Snailback Beach Trail, Wild and Scenic Illinois River Road Guide, Highway 199, Selma, OregonThe trail follows an abandoned road with a moderate grade down to the river. The total hiking distance is about a half mile with about a 200 foot gain in elevation from the parking area to the river.
